Artisan Cheese Company

Why am I always talking about cheese, some of you have asked. Well, apart from my unwavering love of dairy (try as I might, I just can’t tear myself away) and the only slightly disgusting, but embarrassingly true, fact that I want to dive into a vat of luscious, buttery Sweet Grass Dairy Green Hill and swim around in it the way Scrooge McDuck swims around in his gold coins …I happen to work at a cheese shop.     Artisan Cheese Company stole my heart from day one. As a customer, I would come and talk to Louise for hours. No joke. I would let others place their orders and then sidle up to the counter to talk about tastes and scents and the beautiful...

Comte

Comte

As far as France is concerned, Comté is a pretty big effing deal.     Personally, I think of France and I think of a magical few weeks I spent there in my youth, touring the country from Paris all the way down to Aix-En-Provence.  Hours spent wandering through the expansive, overwhelming amount of masterful artistry at The Louvre, eating freshly churned ice cream while strolling through old world Parisian neighborhoods, the view forever etched into my memory from the Eiffel Tower, fields on fields on fields of sunflowers in the countryside, wild horses in The Camargue, sitting in Van Gogh’s Cafe La Nuit in Arles, and a soup from the small seaside town...

Charlotte’s No-Bake Blue Ribbon Bars

“You didn’t bake these?,” I quizzed Charlotte, gobbling down a granola bar in one bite.  ”Nope, it’s too hot to use the oven, so I just whipped up this recipe,” she said, as though ‘whipping up’ one of the best granola bar recipes I’ve ever had is just something that comes to her in her sleep.  ”The idea came to me in my sleep,” she said.  No, she didn’t.  She didn’t say that.  But, I imagine that it did, nonetheless.     I posted this pic on Instagram the other day and I was hounded by replies, texts, emails and Facebook messages (I assume I’ll be receiving written...

Edible Sarasota: Close To The Hive

Hey, you know how I like to talk about honey like all the goddamn time?  Well, here’s a lengthy article I did for Edible Sarasota‘s last issue which delves into CCD and the importance of sustaining our honeybee population.  It also explains why Monsanto is the devil, just in case I haven’t made that clear in previous blogs.  :)       WORDS BY MEGAN GREENBERG • PHOTO BY JENNY ACHESON Sure, it says “honey” on the label, but there’s a good chance that if you got your squeeze bear from the grocery store the only thing you’re adding to your morning tea is high-fructose corn syrup. Now would be a good time to purchase the Jaws...

Burrata, Strawberry and Avocado Salad with Lemon-Garlic Vinaigrette

Burrata, Strawberry and Avocado Salad with Lemon-Garlic Vinaigrette

Wow. I am really dumb. I waited until the end of berry season to share this fanfreakingtastic recipe that Charlotte sent me a month ago. Of course you can still find strawberries at the market, but the organic berries are nearing the end of their run.     Forgive me, won’t you? Bright, beautiful, tart and tangy berries with rich, lactic burrata and creamy, rich avocados with a healthy dose of lemony-garlic dressing?  Yes yes yes yes.  This salad is amazing alone or as a prelude to a good Summer dinner – anything from sauteed fish to grilled ribs. Anyway, short and sweet: Make this. Eat this. Be ridiculously happy about it.     Oh, and...
